The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) has developed School Counselor Competencies, Ethical Standards, and a framework to outline the knowledge abilities, skills and attitudes that ensure school counselors are equipped to meet the demands of the profession and the needs of preK-12th grade students. The Ethical Standards serve as a guide for the ethical practices of all school counselors.
As the school counselor, I serve as the first line of defense in identifying and addressing student social/emotional needs within the school setting. The social/emotional domain is composed of standards to help students manage emotions and learn and apply interpersonal skills as early as preschool and kindergarten. I will implement programs to help students show growth in three areas: academics, career and social/emotional development.
